Where they started.
When an earthquake hits, HR needs to know quickly which employees may be affected and whether they are safe. Finding that out with phone calls and spreadsheets is slow, and with thousands of people it does not scale.
Any answer also had to handle sensitive personal data properly: employees' phone numbers and location-derived data, under Türkiye's data protection law (KVKK).

The approach.
Watch AFAD in real time
A Spring Boot service polls AFAD's seismic database continuously and picks up every new earthquake as soon as it is published.
Match earthquakes to people
Each earthquake is matched against the regions where employees live, so only the people who may be affected are contacted.
Check in by SMS, report to HR
Affected employees receive an automated SMS check-in through third-party SMS gateways, and HR gets PDF and Excel incident reports.
